Sapphire is a single crystal of alumina with hardness >9H, regarded as the second hardest material in nature, second only to diamonds. Sapphire has good light transmission, strong tensile strength, anti-collision resistance, wear resistance, corrosion resistance, high temperature and high pressure resistance, and biocompatibility, which becomes an ideal substrate material for making semiconductor optoelectronic components. The electrical properties of sapphire make it a substrate material for manufacturing white and blue LED.
